    Entrance Station As

As Station was formally a real train station and now serves as a gateway to the Hoge Kempen National Park. The railway line was used to transport coal and linked the mines of Winterslag, Waterschei and Zwartberg. There are still plenty of sights that recall the past in the area around As Station. Besides the meadows, there are also pine forests and marshes.
Train lovers will be in their element: the old diesel train takes you from As Station directly to the mines of Waterschei and Eisden.

    Toegangspoort Lieteberg

In spite of the fact that Lieteberg is 3 kms away from the National Park, it is one of the five gateways to the park. The Lieteberg is primarily known for its diversity of insect life and other small animals. An amazing butterfly house is home only to butterflies native to the area. From May 1st to October 1st the barefoot path is open, the first of its kind in Flanders! As its name suggests, this footpath is only accessible without shoes and gives you the opportunity to literally feel nature under your feet.
