    Mine buildings, Limburg

Limburg owes a large part of its history to coal mining. The heyday for the 7 coal mines, Winterslag, Beringen, Eisden, Waterschei, Zwartberg, Zolder and Houthalen came after the Second World War when they began new lives with new functions, such as the C-Mine (Winterslag) and Waterschei.

In Beringen, the majority of the buildings have been preserved in their historical context. Visit this impressive area and discover the history of mining at the old pitheads: descend into a mine shaft and learn about the reality of daily life for the miners.
